MIT Conference on Mining, Environment, and Society<\/h1>\n

The MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative is excited to announce the virtual\u00a0MIT Conference on Mining, Environment, and Society<\/a>, this September 7-9!<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>In the face of the urgent threat of climate change, economies are undergoing a transition from conventional to renewable sources of energy. This means we can expect to see less extraction of coal and oil\u2014but more mining of metals like lithium, copper, cobalt, and nickel, which come with their own social and environmental impacts. This conference will bring together social and natural scientists, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and environmental organizations to examine the nature of these conflicting challenges and explore opportunities to collaborate for solutions. Conferencia del MIT sobre Miner\u00eda, Medio Ambiente y Sociedad<\/h1>\n

\u00a1<\/em>La Iniciativa de Soluciones Ambientales del MIT presentar\u00e1 la Conferencia virtual del MIT sobre Miner\u00eda, Medio Ambiente y Sociedad<\/a>\u00a0, del 7 al 9 de septiembre!<\/em><\/p>\n

Ante la amenaza urgente del cambio clim\u00e1tico, las econom\u00edas est\u00e1n experimentando una transici\u00f3n de fuentes de energ\u00eda convencionales a renovables.\u00a0\u00bfQu\u00e9 significa esto para las futuras necesidades de recursos del mundo?\u00a0Podemos esperar ver menos extracci\u00f3n de carb\u00f3n y petr\u00f3leo, pero m\u00e1s miner\u00eda de metales como litio, cobre, cobalto y n\u00edquel, que tienen sus propios impactos sociales y ambientales.\u00a0Esta conferencia reunir\u00e1 a cient\u00edficos sociales y naturales, legisladores, partes interesadas de la industria y organizaciones ambientales para examinar la naturaleza de estos desaf\u00edos conflictivos y explorar oportunidades para colaborar en la b\u00fasqueda de soluciones.<\/span><\/p>\n
